Bio
Yvonne is a contemporary portrait, symbolic-narrative and digital arts, artist who has shown broadly early in her career forming the business YSH Studio and continued studio practice whilst working clinically as, medical Art Psychotherapist in community, Specialist Palliative Care for two decades. Obtaining further studies Master of Arts, Arts Therapy and Psychodrama Accreditation added to Yvonne’s expressive skill set, deepening her practice as a visual artist. Yvonne is known for her commission portraiture and surface pattern work. Return to full time studio work has led to the creation of a new collection ‘Heir/Air’, response work honouring motherhood, family, life loss and celebration.
Statement
Childhood themes are ever present in the work I make from my having been impressed with the ‘feel’ of the sky-filled, mountain landscapes I was born into at the foot of the Snowy Mountains in Victoria, raised 6 of 7 children in a loving family. Family history and personal relationship connections prompt me to draw and paint-sketch in my daily spaces, bouncing off what’s on offer in the café’s etc I sit. I find myself painting the effects of being part of a moment and this is what people get in their commissioned works. I find it important to paint, draw print and design from my inquiry about what we ourselves find is forming our substance of existence so the objects we love play as larger part in this as do the spaces we live. I like to meld these to reveal how we hold a dream-like effect in a visual memory as I capture and make a moment. Yvonne Maclean BAFA, Dip.Ed., MAAThR
