‘Avignon in the Snow'
Avignon in the Snow
Artist Yvonne Maclean
Oil on canvas, approx 2100x400mm, from the 'Traveled Responses Collection'
2004
Made as montage of the effect of the stones, sunlight, history and love I felt as I moved throughout St Paul de Vence and Avignon. With so much history, I was relieved with the -16 temperatures that acted as a hold on my senses, with snow up to my knees at times, causing my laughter to burst out and give me back my breath from all the beauty and significance I'd been experiencing. Exhilerating.
The collection was made in response to some increible overseas art study travel the brought my heart alive, part of the travel done with my younger years self, Art History and Painting leacturers, on what was to be the last of their annual, world art study tours. Inspirational at every turn.
